We are incredibly proud of our Blytheville High School Odyssey of the Mind team for their outstanding performance at the 2026 World Finals Competition held at Iowa State University in Ames. Teams from across the United States and around the world gathered to showcase their creativity, teamwork, problem-solving abilities, and innovation in one of the most challenging academic competitions available to students.
Odyssey of the Mind challenges students to solve complex problems through two competition components: Long-Term Problems and Spontaneous Problems. Teams spend months developing creative solutions to a selected long-term problem while also preparing to think critically and creatively on the spot during spontaneous competition. This year’s World Finals featured competitors across five different problem categories and four divisions of competition.
The BHS team competed in Problem 4: Life’s a Ball, a structure problem that required students to design, build, and test a balsa wood structure while incorporating a creative performance solution. Our students earned an impressive 7th-place finish out of 30 teams from around the world. During the competition, their structure officially held an incredible 790 pounds, (unofficial 930 pounds after time was called) demonstrating outstanding engineering, creativity, and perseverance.
This achievement is the culmination of a remarkable season. The team earned 1st Place at the Regional Tournament held in Paragould on February 7th of this year and was later crowned State Champions at the Arkansas State Finals in Conway on March 7th, earning the opportunity to represent the Blytheville School District on the international stage.
Competing at World Finals requires months of dedication, countless hours of practice, teamwork, and commitment. Our students represented Blytheville with professionalism, creativity, and excellence while competing against some of the best Odyssey of the Mind teams in the world. Their success reflects not only their talent and hard work, but also the support of their families, coaches, school staff, and community.
We congratulate our students on an unforgettable season and for representing Blytheville in such a positive way. We are extremely proud of their accomplishments and look forward to seeing what they achieve next year as they continue to pursue excellence through Odyssey of the Mind.
Way to go, BHS OM Team! We are proud of you!
