Think About It Thursday       9-21-17

Today is our first Connections day of the year.   We have one of these most every month (August, December, and May are the exceptions).  These days are for you.  We work hard to bring in speakers from colleges, speakers about careers, military representatives, and we allow time for club meetings and many other things that are important for you.  Please make this year as successful as last by being where you are supposed to be when you are to be there and by making sure you check your computer for class work you may need to do for tomorrow

Bragging Rights

I just want to brag on a few of you guys.  There are some of you, and you know who you are, that are beginning to ask for help. Yay!!  That is awesome!!!  And the best part is you’re asking before you have F’s.  Your grades are C’s and you want them to be better.  I cannot tell you how wise you are being!  I am so, so, so very proud of you for advocating for yourself.  Talk about showing agency!!  Man!  You guys rock and make my day!

Freshmen

Do you realize you began this year with a clean slate?  Your attendance, your discipline, your grades – clean slate.  Who you want to become is up to you.  If you need to make some changes, now is the time.

Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors

You have a clean slate each year with discipline and attendance, but your grades are still affecting your GPA and class rank.  All your high school grades go in the melting pot.  Make sure you’re putting quality work in the pot.  Quality in = quality out.  Junk in = junk out.

Facts & Funnies

The word “nerd” was first coined by Dr. Seuss in “If I Ran the Zoo”.

If the population of China walked past you in single file, the line would never end because of the rate of reproduction.

It takes about a ½ gallon of water to cook macaroni, and about a gallon to clean the pot.

Why is it called a building when it’s already built???

Why is the alphabet in that order?  Is it because of the song???

If a cow laughed, would milk come out of her nose???

What did the DNA say to the other DNA???      Do these genes make me look fat?

Begin with the End in Mind

Steven Covey wrote a bestseller of the ‘90’s entitled The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. The book had many interesting and very applicable principles of effectiveness in it, not the least of which was this: Begin with the end in mind. In other words, know where you want to end up, and adjust your starting point—and every point along the way— accordingly.

Think about it.

Parting Thoughts

Did you guys realize that you are the reason the grown-ups show up every day?  Yeah, there is a pay check attached, but that’s not the reason most of us became teachers.  We do this because we want to make a difference in your world.  Granted, some of us can be crabby at times, but typically we are crabby to make a point with you – we know you can do better or behave better than what you’re doing at the moment we are being crabby.  And I really think you know that too.  So if you ever feel like no one cares, just look around.  You are surrounded by folks who care and you do matter to us.

Love,

Ms. Scottie

P.S. The first ten students – doesn’t matter what grade all ten are in - and the first five grown-ups who reply to this email by simply saying, “I read it all” will be prize winners.  Can’t get much easier than this week’s contest!
